Our culture

The Pioneer Fishing way

Pioneer Fishing values a long-term strategic perspective. Therefore, we aim to build profitability and reduce costs through continuous improvement and using our resources wisely. We value our customers and are committed to excellence when providing our services. We would not be able to do this without our staff. We keep morale up by recognising achievements and providing energising leadership at all levels.

  • Our vision is to be a globally competitive fishing company by pioneering new standards of excellence in everything we do.
  • Our mission is to harvest and develop new and existing sustainable marine resources and transform these effectively into optimal products for appropriate markets for the benefit of all shareholders, employees and other stakeholders.
Sustainable and responsible fishing

We are certified by the International Fishmeal and Fish Oil Organisation (IFFO). As a member of South African Pelagic Fishing Industry Association (SAPFIA), we are committed to the sustainability of small pelagic fishery and ecosystems.

Sound environmental practices

Our commitment reaches further than simple compliance to the law. We integrate sound environmental practices into our business decisions. We've adopted environmental principles as a guide for all our employees and service providers.

Continuous assessment and improvement

We keep an eye on the impact of our plants and products on the environment and the communities in which we live and operate. And then we make sure that we improve.

Ethical standards

We safeguard the safety of our workers and customers through the Sedex Members Ethical Trade Audit (SMETA). We also subscribe to Whistleblowers, where staff and customers can report unethical behaviour anonymously.

Code of ethics

We comply and conform to all the requirements of international and national labour standards and laws, and South Africa's ILO Conventions. The audit done by the Standard Global Services (SGS) is based on the Ethical Trading Initiative (ETI) Base Code and Sedex Members Ethical Trade Audit (SMETA).
